The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? - Jeremiah 17:9
In conventional wisdom we often hear the phrase, trust yourself, listen to what your heart tells you... and then you'll know the answer.
In fact this phrase has been so popular we used it in every which way it is appropriate to... especially in the matters of the heart.
We often led to believe that what our hearts tells us are the one true and correct. Quoting the bible in the book of Jeremiah above, I started to question this kind of thinking... is it really wise to trust the heart?

following your heart makes you EMOTIONAL...
following your mind makes you LOGICAL...
if we can just be Emotional and Logical at the same time....

How can you be so sure that what your mind tells you isn't what the heart really wanted?

I remember in my highschool biology class that the heart's function is merely to pump blood and it is really the mind (brain) that is at work. On the other hand, the Bible speaks in eloquent fashion using a variety of figures of speech/literary forms. The Scripture uses the heart symbolically to represent man's frailty. In my opinion, it isn't the heart that "thinks" or "craves" or "feels". People just associate it with our emotions (esp. when it comes to love), kaya nga never trust your emotions kasi it falters. Weird_O: "How can you be so sure that what your mind tells you isn't what the heart really wanted?" Should the two conspire together?? Many times they are at war! ;D Don't trust your heart, take it from the Word of God.

That's why am trying to question the popular belief that trusting your heart is the right thing to do. Let's put it this way. You can trust the heart if its intent is pure. Figuratively speaking of course. The mind speaks of what is logically correct and the right thing to do, but the heart desires differently. More often than not we find ourselves disillusioned to what does we really want. In that case, heart/emotion has taken over us and we cannot think as we ought to. Is this what am looking for? To be really truly madly deeply in love? That I didn't know what was up and what was down? In this case am I deceived by the heart? ;D Weird_O: "How can you be so sure that what your mind tells you isn't what the heart really wanted?" Should the two conspire together?? Many times they are at war! ;D Don't trust your heart, take it from the Word of God. Sabe nga the heart is treacherous... you'll stick by your decision, but little by little... you'll get closer to what the heart really wanted. Ok, take this example... I can't think of any good one yet... let me get back to you... ;D
